How to overcome choked flow limits in freeze-drying processes

In a freeze-drying process, one of the limiting factors in the duration of a cycle is the design of the
freeze dryer, specifically the choked flow between the chamber and condenser. In this study the
phenomenon of choked flow is explored, along with different factors that can significantly aid in
avoiding choked flow in aggressive recipes from the design phase. Finally, a specific project is analysed
where simulations of the flow in the freeze dryer helped in raising the maximum sublimation rate by
30% with design modifications.
