Use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to optimize performance of pharmaceutical equipment and turnkey projects

Together with the increasing design technification and process optimization is the need for a more accurate analysis and comprehension of physical phenomena, as well as an analysis of their very complex interactions.
During the last few decades Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) have been widely deployed for this purpose within several fields.
This article shows some examples related to pharmaceutical equipment and installations that should be approached using CFD, and the advantages of doing so.
It also tries to give a brief overview of how a CFD study is performed, intended for non-experts in this field.
Finally, it shows some real examples where its use was the key for design engineers to convert an average performance product into a truly optimized one.
