A new photocatalytic treatment based on titanium dioxide implemented inside biological safety cabinets provides a self-cleaning surface which breaks down organic matter in presence of light. This activation, which can be either with white or ultraviolet light, achieves the oxidation of organic matter naturally, safely and in short term. This is a new barrier to avoid biocontamination in an equipment specially designed to protect the user. The results of the CIRTTA research centre demonstrated the efficiency of the treatment, and how it could contribute to multiply the safety of the operations to be carried out within the enclosure.
